
Severe thunderstorms producing multiple tornadoes struck portions of Tennessee early Tuesday, resulting in massive amounts of property damage and widespread power outages.
According to the latest reports, surveyed damage appears to have been caused by approximately six tornadoes generating wind speeds between 125-175 mph. Associated damage has been reported in at least four counties, with media outlets listing Nashville (Downtown, East and West), Donelson, Germantown, Hermitage and Mt. Juliet as hardest hit.
In addition to structural damage, the storms knocked out power to more than 73,000 homes and businesses after bringing down trees and an estimated 600 utility poles.
In response to this activity, Governor Bill Lee has issued a statewide emergency declaration.
