Hurricane Isaias

After making landfall Monday night near Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., as a Category 1 storm, Hurricane Isaias directly impacted a large portion of the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and New England regions of the U.S.

For approximately 24 hours, the system raced from North Carolina to Maine, causing flash floods, high winds and multiple tornadoes that damaged homes, uprooted thousands of trees and mowed down utility poles. More than 3 million homes and businesses lost power between Monday and Tuesday night.

Although the bulk of reported damage appears to have stemmed from high winds and tornadoes, heavy rain caused historic cresting for Pennsylvania’s Perkiomen Creek and Schuylkill River on Tuesday. As a result, numerous homes and businesses located in surrounding communities have experienced major flooding.
