Southern U.S. Thunderstorms and Tornadoes

Severe thunderstorms spawning several tornadoes struck several southern states.

After a series of tornadoes struck Mississippi on Sunday, new storms moving across the South on Monday spawned additional twisters responsible for structural damage in several states.

According to media outlets, affected areas also experienced large hail and high winds that added to the threat of window and roof damage sustained by residential homes. Additional impacts included uprooted trees, downed utility poles and dense debris trails.

Sunday’s storms resulted in more than 21 reports of unconfirmed tornadoes that damaged homes and businesses in portions of southern Mississippi. Locations hardest hit include Tupelo, where extensive residential damage was reported near the Elvis Presley Museum area and the Park Hill neighborhood.
